Trestle dining table

Intermediate
Trestle dining table: the GrainDraft model, seen from the front and one side.
The GrainDraft model, not a photograph of a finished piece.

A 72-inch oak dining table on a trestle base: two posts standing on wide feet, tied together by a long stretcher under the top. Each foot has a shallow arch cut along its underside, so it rests on its two ends.

The base is joined with mortise and tenon joints, and the top is fixed to the arms with pocket screws. Breadboard ends across each end of the top help keep it flat. There are only ten parts, but every joint carries weight, which makes it a good next step after a first table.

Open it to see how the posts, feet, arms and stretcher fit together before you start cutting.
